Im thinking about getting Wow, dont worry i will still play guild wars as its a great game, im just wondering a few things for people on here that have and play both:

1: Are there still loads of people playing WoW?
2: Can my computer run it if i can run GW fine on lowest settings (512mb of ram, 2.66ghz, geforce 4 mx 440 128mb, i know the gfx card is crap but i think i can run it on lowest settings cant i?
3: Is there farming in WoW
4: What is this, does this mean i can play the game for 60 days without paying monthly? http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.as...144&mid=325814

5: Is there a trade aspect to the game like guild wars with lots of WTS and wtb stuff?

thanks

(please no WOW is crap im just looking for answers)

Yes

Yes

Not really

That is a game card. You purchase it from any store that has them, enter the code on the back into your account, and you don't have to pay for the 60 day period. After that you get another one.

There is an Auction House.

I played WoW for 2 years, came to Guild Wars in October.I had 4 level 60's and was in a raiding guild.

1) Seems the whole world is playing WoW, so unless you have been living under a rock, this shouldn't exactly be news.

2) WoW actually has higher requirements than Guild Wars. Your graphics card may not be able to handle the more crowded areas of the game as well as many of the graphical effects. You might have to turn down many video settings, etc.

3) WoW is full of farmers. The game will require you to farm. So have fun, really. I always laugh when people say they are farming in Guild Wars, I can guarantee you that farming in WoW is a whole different thing. I personally hate farming as a constant activity.

4) I didn't follow your link, but Blizzard usually offers a free period of play time upon purchase (usually 30 days) before you have to start paying. Other offers will vary.

Should run it fine, while not at peak efficiency
The game is well coded and compatible, few if any memory sinks and such

Depends what you want to do in the game
You can level to top level reasonably fast, maybe a month for someone new to the game and not playing it too hardcore, but people have been known to do it in a few days
If you want the best gear however, you need to spend quite a bit of time
You can either go for the "pvp gear" or for the "Pve gear" (lots of gear ("itemization") related whines are countered with "if you want to pvp get pvp gear" and vica versa, but these are invalid fanboy statements, when the actual problems stems from really poor 1v1 balance (again, countered with "the game isnt meant for 1v1" which is also a lie)
Raiding guilds doing the top end content wants people that play alot, no less than 4 times a week for the duration of the raid (anywhere from 3 to 7 hours) as to not spread the loot out too much and thus struggle with harder encounters. The amount of loot pr week pr guild is a fixed amount, so the less people to split it with the stronger the guild
Getting the good "pvp gear" requires an equal dedication of time. While they are moving away from the pvp rank system in a few weeks the previous/current systems forced players to play for 10-12 hours every day for 3 months to get the top rank, for some meagre rewards. Also, most people quit pvping entirely after getting the gear, having pvp'ed only for the gaer and not for the fun of pvp (the pvp in wow isnt fun, its highly gear based and theres far too much long lasting crowd control)

"Note that when you purchase a Pre-Paid Game Card, you are paying "upfront" for 60 days of game time, "
I would think so...

The auction house system is quite advanced and due to the sheer amount of people the flow of money and items through it is massive, you'll have no problems selling (sellable) stuff there

its easily the best mmo game i have played, and i have played most of them

i quit it in october 06 after having played it since release (nov 04 in the USA version then starting in the EU version on its release in feb 05) because i had "beaten the game" but im thinking of returning as there are simply no other good mmos on the market atm
Im sure EQ2 is good (the mmo most similar to WoW atm imo), but its run by SOE and they WILL screw with you at every opportunity, "its not like anyone quits our game anyways after investing so much time into their characters, so we will just keep offering piss poor customer support and constant pendulum nerfs"

Also, i hear the WoW pvp is improving with a global 12 second duration on crowd control (as opposed to 45 seconds to 1 minute duration on most of them) and moving away from the rank system and more of a system equal to GW where you get "pvp currency" which you trade in for gear

Started WoW exactly a year ago, played until i was lvl 60, raided some easier instances, and then took a break as it was consuming too much of my time.
WoW is indeed a good game, altho the economy is far different from that of GW. u cannot get epic gear just by farming or solo running, neither from trading, it requires u to put effort into getting loot. hours of raiding with guilds, so if u intend to solo-play, u wont go far. and yea, there isnt the WTS spam in towns since theres an auction house ^^

that's weird. i always thought WoW had lower requirments cuz the strategy was to get people to play no matter what kind of machine u had. or so i was told

anyways, i gave WoW a try and game play wise, it is awesome. the community is really cool to although i do think some (and even some is A LOT of people lol) people take it a little to far. they actually think they ARE the character. but w/e. if that's what floats their boat!

but i couldnt stand the game design. i felt like i was playing something from cartoon network. everything was too silly for me. i like realism and GW's design works for me. my 2 cents.

fyi, u can play WoW for free for 2 weeks. i suggest u do that first. but u can't get above lvl 20 among other limitations

An important note: Graphics card isn't usually the bottleneck for WoW. Not even processor speed is. MEMORY is. They'll even tell you this on their own site, running WoW with less than 1GB of RAM is painful. If you have lots of RAM, then it barely matters what else you have, although the MX440 is quite a few generations behind the curve (it's based on a GeForce 2, not a 4 like the name suggests!).

Is there farming in WoW? Yes, there is. If you're gonna raid high-end content, you're probably going to be chowing consumables like sugar water. If you want to buy parts so you can craft gear to hit the magic resist cockblocks they threw in all over the place, you're gonna need more cash. There are a million ways to farm, but the most productive ways actually involve farming massive quantities of relatively easy-to-get items. Like picking herbs in Felwood, which is where I made my fortune. :P

The trade system in WoW is MUCH better than GW's, it has auction houses which are now linked between major cities, which is where most commodity trading happens. Chat is mainly used for crafting and services.

Unfortunately, I need to go off on a tirade anyway:

A few things you also need to understand: WoW is extremely different from GW.
- There is a lot more grinding, and even when you hit the level cap, you're still going to be grinding for better gear. Most of the good gear in WoW is dropped by bosses and is bind on pickup (meaning as soon as you pick it up, you can't trade it to anyone).
- Raids can consume several consecutive hours and take about a half-hour just to start.
- One hour is not enough time to accomplish anything in WoW, period.
- The PVP matching system is currently a joke. You WILL get steamrolled unless you're decked out in raid gear and and in a guild premade, because that's who you're often going to be facing. A decked out hunter can kill my druid from outside of my druid's casting range in under 3 seconds.
- Prior to the battlegroup system, average wait time for an Alliance player to get into a game was 45 minutes, or several HOURS for Alterac Valley. This has likely improved, but if you get pissed off over one "No opposing party joined" in GW, then WoW's PVP will drive you completely insane.
- Everything every review you've read praises the game for WILL come to an abrupt halt when you hit level 60. This includes the fast levelling, questing, and 5-man dungeon runs. It gets replaced by an overwhelming emphasis on 40-man raids.
- Most of your time playing the game will be spent at level 60. Remember, level 60 is very different from level 1-59 right now!
- Pick your class carefully regardless. Getting to 60 does take quite a while. Rogues and Hunters are generally very overpopulated, any class that can heal will generally be forced to heal come level 60. If you want to kill stuff AND get a group, make a warrior, mage, or warlock.
- Surviving in most of the endgame requires gearing up in Molten Core, and Molten Core is probably one of the least-exciting experiences I've ever had in the history of video games. It's like Shing Jea Island... with 40 people on Ventrilo!

They're supposedly going to be heavily revising the PVP matchup system, but gear is still going to be a dominant factor, PVE gear is STILL going to be easier to acquire than the PVP rewards, and they still refuse to just make gear with PVP-only bonuses to keep the playing field level, because their lead designer was an EQ raid fanatic who has literally made arguments against balance because it would make raiders' efforts seem less valuable.

Oh yeah, their update cycle is also ridiculously sluggish. Typically major updates come once every 13 weeks and contain what people were begging for about 8 months ago, in half-ass form, with three classes complaining because a severe bug was introduced to one of their class's skills that won't be fixed for another 6 weeks.

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for a while, but they haven't really added anything but more raid dungeons in a long time. Supposedly Burning Crusade is going to address that, capping the player limit in a dungeon at 25 instead of 40, and introducing a much larger selection of 5/10-person dungeons. I actually trust them, since they do seem to legitimately listen, even if they react extremely slowly.

Right now, it's 20 bucks, so you can't REALLY lose just trying, but the state of the endgame is going to blow until at least the expansion.

it has been common practice for every subscription based mmo since meridian 59 to offer a free month upon purchasing the game and/or a game cd key, like for example NCSoft offers for their games
